Eleanor A. Riley
February 14, 2024
Eleanor Ann Riley, age 94, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s hospital surrounded by family. She was born in Syracuse, NY, graduated from St. John the Baptist High School in 1946, and was a St. Joseph's School of Nursing “49er” graduate. She was a resident of Phoenix, NY for many years where she raised her large family of six children but also found time to become very active in religious education at St. Stephen’s church, and Campfire Girls. Later she moved to Liverpool, NY and was active at St. Joseph the Worker/Epiphany Parish as a Eucharistic minister and Lector.
Ellie was a nurse in St. Joseph's Hospital for over 40 years, working in the Burn Unit, ICU, and Newborn Nursery. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with family. She treated her children and grandchildren to many years of unforgettable fun-filled “Grama’s Camps” in the summer. She enjoyed traveling, knitting, sporting events, and playing competitive card games -especially Riley family Pitch tournaments and her Bridge club. She made everlasting friends wherever she went.
Ellie is predeceased by her parents, Carl and Anna Bauder, brother Carl Bauder, sister Kathryn Riley, husband Robert Riley, son David Riley, and daughter-in-law Sue Bryan.
She is survived by her sons Bob (Jan) Riley, Steve Riley, and her daughters Mary Lynn (Dave) Shaw, Lori (Bill Tourville) Dittler, and Ginny (Mark) Ottman, her cousin Frank (Cindy Day) Stille, and many cousins in Germany. She leaves thirteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held on Monday 2/19/24 from 9:00 am to 10:00am in Epiphany Parish at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1001 Tulip St., Liverpool, NY 13088 with A Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 am. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
